Skirt Making Class

The Mave is a versatile tiered skirt pattern with multiple lengths and options for ruffled tiers, pockets, lining, and a drawstring. You’ll choose the version that works for you while learning the techniques needed to take your project from pattern to finished garment.

Over two sessions, Susie will guide you through reading and preparing your pattern, cutting your fabric, construction, gathering, pockets, waistband techniques, and finishing.

Skill Level: Comfortable Beginner — a great next step for sewers ready to begin exploring garment sewing. Students should have previous sewing experience and be comfortable using their own sewing machine.

What’s included

Your Mave Skirt pattern by True Bias is included with your class registration and can be picked up at Pink Thread as soon as you register.

We highly recommend picking up your pattern before your first session. Take some time to read through the instructions, review the different style options, determine your size, and familiarize yourself with the project. Bring your pattern and any questions with you to your first session.

Choose your Mave

Depending on the version you choose, your skirt can be made:

• With or without ruffled tiers

• In various lengths

• With or without a lining

• With an elastic waistband

• With an optional drawstring

• With side-seam pockets

Fabric and notion requirements will vary depending on your size and the version you choose.

Fabric & notions

Students are responsible for purchasing all fabric and notions required for their selected version before class.

The Mave pattern is designed for fabrics at least 54" wide. You may use 42" wide fabric, but additional yardage will be required. Depending on your size and selected style, this may require up to approximately 2 additional yards.

All fabric must be pre-washed before your first session. We recommend washing your fabric at least once using the same method you plan to use for the finished garment. Fabrics that shrink significantly or bleed dye may require additional washing.

Additional notes

Homework may be assigned between the two sessions depending on your individual progress. Completing any assigned work before your second session will help keep your project on track.
